Big Release Dates Finally Revealed!

Hello to all my favourite people and welcome back to Playstation Base!  I hope you are feeling fine!

box-art-mad-maxjpg-1ddd83_400wSomething crazy happened yesterday at GDC.  Remember that game at E3 2013 that Sony showed for the PS4?  You know the one, the Nathan Drake lookalike, spinning around in the sand in his truck, breaking legs and smashing heads?  You got it!  The elusive Mad Max has made its re-entry into Playstation AirSpace, after a long time in the dark and finally Warner Bros have announced an all important release date!  So, drum roll please – Avalanche Studio near secret Mad Max will be released on September 1st and September 4th in North America and Europe respectively.  Awesome right?  It was only a week ago I was talking to a friend about how quiet developement for this title had been, so quiet in fact that he couldn’t even remember it being announced!  Preordering the title will award you with a fully upgradeable Magnum Opus car body called The Ripper.  We also got to see a bunch of new screenshots and the box art! (pictured left).  Unfortunately, all of you that are waiting for a last gen release will be disappointed to know that it has been cancelled – I guess it’s time to dig deep and upgrade since this is becoming a trend.

256px-MGS5_TPP_E3_2014_main_imageryAlso, something crazily exciting happened – Konami finally announced when the long-awaited MGS5: Phantom Pain is due to make its appearance on console.  Battling Mad Max head on, it has been pinned for 1st September also.  We also got to see what the collections edition would entail, including a Half scale replica of Snakes Bionic Arm, Exclusive collectors edition packaging, an Original Stealbook and a Behind The Scenes Documentary and Trailer Compilation.  This is all wrapped up nicely with a map to top it off – if you like that sort of thing of course.  It would also include additional In-Game content such as new weapons and cardboard boxes.  The Day One addition will also find separate additional content following the same trends.  Kojima has also announced Phantom Pain to be the last game of the franchise, but could this just be a publicity stunt?  Time will tell!

Sony_Project_Morpheus_35873300-2912-014The last big release date announcement isn’t a date as such.  But Sony actually announced that Project Morpheus, the much talked about VR Headset for Playstation will be seeing its debut in ‘the first half of 2016’.  I myself am surprised it will miss Christmas ’15, but the important thing will be that it is ready.  Along with the launch window update, we were told about various upgrades to the current prototype – here they are:

The 5 Inch LED Screen has been scrapped for a 5.7 inch OLED display with a 1920 x 1080 resolution.  Pretty awesome!  This will expand the field of vision and remove motion blur.

Project Morpheus boasts a 120hz refresh rate – doubling the original 60hz.  This means that games can be rendered at 120fps, making stunning visuals become even smoother.

The Super Low Latency of the Morpheus has been reduced further to 18ms.  Latency is super important for VR to give you a real sense of presence and obviously with the screen being so close to your face, you will notice higher latencies a lot more.

A Further 3 LEDs have been added to the headset to increase 360 tracking.  That’s an extra 1 on the front and 2 on the sides, increasing the total number to 9.

The design has been improved and is now easier to put on and take off, sporting a single band and quick release button.  The headband provides support for the headset to take the pressure off of your face.  The weight has also been decreased.

I can’t wait for all 3 of these announcements.  There is no way in hell I will miss a single one!  Some big things coming from GDC so far and it runs until the 6th March so keep those ears pinned back so you don’t miss a thing!

Which one are you most excited about?  Let me know in the comments box below!
